small nuclear ribonucleoprotein 70kDa (RNP antigen)
U1 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein 70 kDa
Background Information
U1 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein 70 kDa (U1-70K) is one of three specific proteins found within the U1 snRNP core, which includes at least seven core proteins found in all U snRNPs and three specific proteins; U1-70K, U1-A, and U1-C. U1-70K is involved in mediating pre-mRNA splicing through binding the loop I region of U1-snRNA with its RPM (RNA recognition motif) binding domain. In addition, its RNA binding domain, U1-70K also contains two argine-rich regions, accented with acidic or serine residues, that is thought to have trans-acting functions. Alternative splicing results in 4 known isoforms. Truncated forms of U1-70K are unable to bind RNA.

Specificity
This antibody recognizes U1-70K at the C-terminal domain.
FUNCTION: Mediates the splicing of pre-mRNA by binding to the loop I region of U1-snRNA. The truncated isoforms cannot bind U1-snRNA.
SUBUNIT STRUCTURE: Found in a pre-mRNA splicing complex with SFRS4, SFRS5, SNRNP70, SNRPA1, SRRM1 and SRRM2. Found in a pre-mRNA exonic splicing enhancer (ESE) complex with SNRNP70, SNRPA1, SRRM1 and TRA2B/SFRS10. Interacts with dephosphorylated SFRS13A and SFPQ. Interacts with NUDT21/CPSF5, CPSF6, SFRS2IP, and ZRANB2.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus.
PTM: The N-terminus is blocked.
Extensively phosphorylated on serine residues in the C-terminal region.
MISCELLANEOUS: Major ribonucleoprotein antigen recognized by the sera from patients with autoimmune diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus.
SEQUENCE CAUTION: The sequence CAA28352.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation.
The sequence CAA29964.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation.
The sequence CAA29966.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation.
