Interleukin-4 (IL-4) is a cytokine that stimulates activated B-cell and T-cell proliferation and induces differentiation of naive helper T cells (Th0 cells) to Th2 cells. These Th2 cells, in turn, also produce IL-4. IL-4 also acts as a key regulator in humoral and adaptive immunity and induces B-cell class switching to IgE, as well as up-regulating MHC class II production. Mutations in the IL-4 gene may lead to a susceptibility to ischemic stroke or cerebral infarction. Overproduction of IL-4 is associated with allergies.

Applications
Application
This Anti-Interleukin 4 (IL-4) Antibody, clone 11.B.11 is validated for use in FC, EA for the detection of Interleukin 4 (IL-4).
Key Applications
Flow Cytometry
Enzyme Assay
Application Notes
Functional Activity Assay: A previous lot was utilized by an independent laboratory to show increased resistance of mice to Listeria monocytogenes infection after administration of anti-interleukin 4 (IL-4), clone 11.B.11. (Haak-Frendscho, M., et al., 1992).
Biological Information
Immunogen
Recombinant protein corresponding to mouse IL-4.
Epitope
Unknown
Clone

Concentration
Please refer to the Certificate of Analysis for the lot-specific concentration.
FUNCTION: Participates in at least several B-cell activation processes as well as of other cell types. It is a costimulator of DNA-synthesis. It induces the expression of class II MHC molecules on resting B-cells. It enhances both secretion and cell surface expression of IgE and IgG1. It also regulates the expression of the low affinity Fc receptor for IgE (CD23) on both lymphocytes and monocytes.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Secreted.
SEQUENCE SIMILARITIES: Belongs to the IL-4/IL-13 family.
