Catenins are proteins associated with complexes that contain cadherin cell adhesion molecules. Delta-1-catenin is a member of the p120 Catenin subfamily and is a structural protein involved in neuronal development. It interacts with Actin, Cortactin and Src Kinases to promote neurite elongation or branching, depending upon its phosphorylation state. Like beta-catenin and gamma-catenin, delta-catenins appear to interact with presenilins. These catenin-presenilin interactions can impact cadherin function and regulation of cell-to-cell adhesion. While beta-catenin acts as a transcription regulatory protein in the Wnt/TCF pathway, delta-catenin has been implicated as a regulator of the NF-kB transcription factor.

This gene encodes a member of the Armadillo protein family, which function in adhesion between cells and signal transduction. Multiple translation initiation codons and althernative splicing result in many different isoforms being translated. Not all of the full-length natures of the described transcript variants have been determined. [provided by RefSeq].
Transcript Variant: This variant (1) is the longest variant and it encodes the longest protein (isoform 1ABC). This variant has also been called hp120ctn-1ABC.
FUNCTION:Binds to and inhibits the transcriptional repressor ZBTB33, which may lead to activation of target genes of the Wnt signaling pathway By similarity. May associate with and regulate the cell adhesion properties of both C- and E-cadherins. Implicated both in cell transformation by SRC and in ligand-induced receptor signaling through the EGF, PDGF, CSF-1 and ERBB2 receptors. Promotes GLIS2 C-terminal cleavage.
SUBUNIT STRUCTURE: Belongs to a multiprotein cell-cell adhesion complex that also contains E-cadherin, alpha-catenin, beta-catenin, and gamma-catenin. Binds to the C-terminal fragment of PSEN1 and mutually competes for E-cadherin. Interacts with ZBTB33. Interacts with GLIS2. Ref.6 Ref.14
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION:Cytoplasm. Nucleus. Cell membraneBy similarity. Note= Interaction with GLIS2 promotes nuclear translocation By similarity.
TISSUE SPECIFICITY:Expressed in vascular endothelium. Ref.7
INDUCTION:Induced in vascular endothelium by wounding. This effect is potentiated by prior laminar shear stress, which enhances wound closure. Ref.7
DOMAIN:A possible nuclear localization signal exists in all isoforms where Asp-626--631-Arg are deleted.
PTM:Phosphorylated By similarity.
DISEASE:May contribute to cell malignancy. Complete loss of expression was observed in approximately 10% of invasive ductal breast carcinomas investigated.
SIMILARITY:Belongs to the beta-catenin family.
Contains 10 ARM repeats.

Quality Assurance
Routinely evaluated by Western Blot on HeLa whole cell lysate.
Western Blot Analysis:
A 1:250-1:1000 dilution of this lot was used to detect p120 Catenin in HeLa whole cell lysate.
Usage Statement
Unless otherwise stated in our catalog or other company documentation accompanying the product(s), our products are intended for research use only and are not to be used for any other purpose, which includes but is not limited to, unauthorized commercial uses, in vitro diagnostic uses, ex vivo or in vivo therapeutic uses or any type of consumption or application to humans or animals.
Storage and Shipping Information
Storage Conditions
Stable for 1 year at -20ºC from date of receipt.
Handling Recommendations: Upon receipt, and prior to removing the cap, centrifuge the vial and gently mix the solution. Aliquot into microcentrifuge tubes and store at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles, which may damage IgG and affect product performance. Note: Variability in freezer temperatures below -20°C may cause glycerol containing solutions to become frozen during storage.
