CHI3L1, also known as HCgp39 (human cartilage glycoprotein 39) and YKL40, is a secreted glycoprotein belonging to the family of chitinase-like lectins. These proteins are structurally related to the glycosylhydrolase family 18, but lack enzymatic activity. CHI3L1 is expressed by chondrocytes, synovial cells, macrophages and neutrophils. It has been found to play a role in down-regulating cytokine-induced inflammatory responses.

The Quantikine Mouse CHI3L1 immunoassay is a 4.5 hour solid-phase ELISA designed to measure CHI3L1 in cell culture supernates, mouse serum, and plasma. It contains NS0-expressed recombinant mouse CHI3L1 and antibodies raised against the recombinant factor. This immunoassay has been shown to accurately quantitate the recombinant mouse CHI3L1. Results obtained using natural mouse CHI3L1 showed dose response curves that were parallel to the standard curves obtained using the Quantikine mouse kit standards. These results indicate that this kit can be used to determine relative mass values for natural mouse CHI3L1.
