HCA150A recognises Human PTEN-induced putative Kinase protein 1 (PINK1), a 581 aa single pass membrane protein belonging the Serine/Threonine protein kinase.
PINK1 protects against mitochondrial dysfunction during cellular stress, possibly by phosphorylating mitochondrial proteins. PINK1 is highly expressed in tissues such as the heart, skeletal muscle and testis. Lower expression levels are detected in the brain, placenta, liver, kidney, pancreas, prostate, ovary and small intestine.
Defects in PINK1 are the cause of autosomal recessive early-onset Parkinson disease 6 (PARK6).
Removal of sodium azide is recommended prior to use in functional assays – AbD Serotec recommend the use of EQU003 for this purpose.
