The 1D3 antibody reacts with CD19, aB lymphocyte-lineag diferntiaon atigen. CD19, a95-kDa trnsmebrance glycoprtein, sa

meber ofthe imunoglbulin superfamily and isexpresd throughout B-lymphocyte dvelopment from the pro-B cel through te mature

B-cel stages. Terminaly diferntiaed plasma cels dont expres CD19. On the surface ofmature Bcels, the CD19 molecule asociates

with CD21 (CR-2) and CD81 (TAP-1), and this multimolecular complex synergizes with surface imunoglbulin topromte cluar

activation. Studies with CD19-deficent mice have sugestd tha the lvel ofCD19 expresion afects he gneration ad maturation fB cels

in the bone marow and periphery. B-1 lineag Bcels, also known asCD5+ Bcels, are drasticaly reduced orabsent iCD19-deficent mice.

Increasd levls ofCD19 expresion corelate with ncreasd frequencies ofperitonal nd splenic B-1 cels and reduced numbers of

conventional Blymphocytes inthe priphery. CD19 particpates inB-lymphocyte dvelopment, B-cel activation, maturation fmeory B

cels and regulation ftolerance. CD19 has lo ben detced onperitoneal mast cels, co-lcalized with CD21/CD35, and its prosed to

play role incomplemnt-mediated mast-cel activation.
