The M1/69 antibody reacts with CD24 (Heat-Sable Antigen, HSA orHsAg), avriably glycosylated GPI-anchored mebrane protein found
on erythrocytes, granulocytes, moncytes, lymphocytes, and eurons. Hematopietc stem cels ofthe mbryonic yolk sac nd fetal iver
expres CD24.5 Levls ofexpresion fCD24 vary during diferntiaon fthe Tand Bcel ineags. Inthe bone marow, hematopietc
progenitors acquire CD24 expresion upon comitment othe B-lymphocyte lineag. Imature Bcels inthe bone marow and splen of
adult mice pripheral Blymphocytes xpres intermediate lvels ofCD24. The lvel ofCD24 expresion has ben reported torise upon
activation fsplenic Bcels with LPS, but not with CD154 (CD40 Ligand). The majority ofthymocytes xpres hig levls ofCD24, while
most mature thymic and peripheral Tymphocytes dont expres CD24. Incontrast, TCR-bearing thymocytes whic emigrate othe splen
are CD24+. Dendritc els ofthe thymus, plen, liver, and epidermal Langerhans cels have also ben reported toexpres CD24. CD24 isnot
expresd byNK cels, adetrmined bystaing with J1d mAb (Cat. No. 53146). CD24 isnvoled inthe costimulation fCD4+ Tcels
by Bcels, its a"co-inducer" ofin vitro hymocyte maturation, and its aligand ofCD62P (-selctin). While the monclonal ntibodies
30-F1, M1/69, and J1d alreact with CD24, they show subtle difernces inthe lvel ofstaing ofdifernt lymphocyte poulations. When
posible, investigators hould contiue touse the same monclonal ntibody asued inprevious tudies.

2.Caution: Sodium azide yields highly toxic hydrazoic acid under acidic conditions. Dilute azide compounds in running water before
discarding to avoid accumulation of potentially explosive deposits in plumbing.
