AHP533H recognises human somatostatin, a polypeptide hormone produced by the hypothalamus, D cells in the pancreas and by nerves within the intestinal wall.
Somatostatin exists in 2 forms - a 28 amino acid pro-hormone and a mature 14 amino acid form. In the pancreas, duodenum and gastric antrum the 14 amino acid form is predominate, whilst the pro-hormone is more common in other regions of the gastrointestinal tract.
