AHP1748 recognises human alpha 1 acid glycoprotein (alpha 1-AGP), also known as orosomucoid (ORM1), a 40kDa major acute phase reactant secreted into the plasma by the liver, believed to act as an anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory agent.
An increase in plasma alpha 1-AGP levels occurs during tissue injury, inflammation, infection, surgery, acute myocardial infarction, trauma and pregnancy. Regulators of alpha 1-AGP expression include IL-1beta, IL-6, glucocorticoids, TNF-alpha and retinoic acids, and alpha 1-AGP can bind to drugs from endogenous and exogenous origin.
