AHP1574 specifically recognises an epitope within the C-terminal (CT) region of NUMB (protein numb homolog), a membrane-associated protein selectively partitioned during asymmetric cell division, involved in the fate of cells during development.
NUMB, originally identified inDrosophila, is a major regulator of the intercellular Notch signalling pathway particularly associated with the development/differentiation of cell lineages of the central nervous system. Studies indicate that inhibition of Notch signalling by NUMB allows for neuronal cell differentiation, whereas those cells maintaining Notch signalling initiate apoptosis.
