AHP1275 is specific for human Artemin, a disulfide-linked homodimer and member of the GDNF (glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor) family of ligands, and cysteine-knot superfamily of growth factors, which shares structural homology with GDNF, Persephin and Neurturin.
Artemin acts as a neurotrophic survival and differentiation factor for all peripheral ganglia, and mainly signals through binding to the GDNF-family receptor known as GFR-alpha-3, which then forms a complex with the tyrosine kinase transmembrane signalling receptor RET.
