5317-0170 is specific for Influenza B hemagglutinin.
It is reactive with strains antigenically related to Influenza B/Yamagata/16/88 but non-reactive with strains related to Influenza B/Victoria/2/87.
Influenza B virus is a member of the Orthomyxoviridae family which cause acute respiratory illnesses in humans. Influenza B is a single stranded RNA virus which is morphologically similar to the Influenza A virus. Influenza B has a low host range (humans and seals) and slow mutation rate, which although enough to prevent lasting immunity, prevents Influenza B from causing pandemics.
