Description: This BE2.1 monoclonal antibody reacts with human calcineurin, which is also known as protein phosphatase 2B. Calcineurin is a calcium- and calmodulin-dependent serine/threonine phosphatase that is composed of a 59-kDa catalytic subunit (Calcineurin A) and a 19-kDa regulatory subunit (Calcineurin B). This enzyme is expressed in all tissues in mammals. In the immune system, calcineurin plays a key role in T cell activation by dephosphorylating NFAT and thereby enabling the transcription factor to translocate into the nucleus to promote expression of genes such as IL-2. The activity of calcineurin can be inhibited by the immunosuppressants FK506 and cyclosporin A. Dysfunctional calcineurin regulation has been implicated in a variety of immune and non-immune diseases, including diabetes, asthma, and Alzheimer’s disease.
This monoclonal antibody recognizes the 59-kDa Calcineurin A subunit.
